After tuning in to this year’s DC FanDome, all we can say is - WOW.
As much we wish we could sit here and ramble on and every last little detail the 2021 FanDome threw at us, we’ve done our best to boil it down to the top 10 most hype-inducing highlights.
So grab yourself a snack and a cup of joe because boy, do we have a lot to talk about!
10) A brand new series for John Cena’s Peacemaker.
After his first appearance on the page happening way back in 1966, Peacemaker’s debut as a central star is an event that we think is way overdue! After recently being introduced to Peacemaker’s silver screen incarnation, portrayed by John Cena, in 2021’s The Suicide Squad, the preview of Peacemaker’s very own adventure in an all-new live action series is something we can’t wait to get our teeth into.
9) Live-action Static Shock Script.
After his debut appearance in MileStone Comics back in 1993, not only has Static Shock been a lovable, fun-filled bringer of action for all, but also a much-needed beacon of representation for the black community worldwide. As such, we were all stoked to hear that a live action Static Shock movie is currently in the works, as well as an animated movie featuring several members of the classic MileStone cast. All we can say is: it's about damn time!
8) Shazam! Fury Of The Gods Sneak Peek.
From the moment we first heard that Shazam and the crew were coming back for a second go-around, it's safe to say that this sequel already had us sold. I mean, why would anyone not want more Shazam, right?
As a result of which, the sneak peek at Shazam’s all-new 2023 Fury Of The Gods went down an absolute treat! With the exciting surprise appearance of Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren as a brand new dauntless duo of DC antagonists, we sure as hell can’t wait to see where DC will be taking our beloved goofball of a hero with this one.
7) Gaming News with Gotham Knights!
A trailer premiere that thrilled video gamers worldwide, it seems that Gotham Knights will be going above and beyond in the all-new 2022 release. With some very blatant nods towards the infamous Court Of Owls, the story behind Gotham Knights may well be acting as the catalyst for a thickening plot point within the overall DC Universe. In any case, we know that this shady faction of mask-wearing cape-bearers is going to pose one hell of a problem - and we are so here for it!
6) Catwoman’s ALL NEW anime rendition.
It has been WAY too long since Catwoman headlined her own film. As one of THE iconic villains of DC, it's about time we saw a brand new Catwoman-focused adventure and boy have DC delivered on this one! With its beautiful anime art style, packed with witty one-liners and the possibility of appearances from various cape-clad heroes and villains, we can’t wait to see what else this movie will have in store!
5) The Flash: he finally has the gold boots!
Did you see those funky gold boots?! A much-rumoured addition to Flash’s classic scarlet ensemble, we finally got to see those zany, much-talked-about golden high-tops in the flesh!
Oh yeah, and they also previewed the new movie.
Set to release in 2022, we will finally be treated to a live action adaptation of Flashpoint, a fan-favourite Flash comic that was originally released back in 2011. Alongside everything else, the new Flash trailer gave us a little cheeky teaser of Micheal Keaton’s reprisal of his beloved portrayal of Batman.
With the fresh kicks, fan-favourite storyline and an absolute heap of new questions, there’s no way even this scarlet speedster could sprint to our screens fast enough!
4) First cheeky peak at Black Adam.
Breaking news from Black Adam! In this year's DC FanDome, we were treated to the explosive opening announcement from none other than Dwayne Johnson, as he shared with us the future plans for the much talked about Black Adam. In an exciting new sneak-peak of the upcoming movie, it's safe to say that fans have gone from buzzing to beyond hyped for the upcoming 2022 release of Black Adam’s live-action debut!
3) Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom.
With the first live action instalment of Aquaman opening up an absolute torrent of questions, the behind the scenes peak for Aquaman 2 was a hype-inducing double-edged sword. It was both a welcome antidote to our agony and a gateway to more galling questions that we just can’t wait to get the answers to! FanDome tells us that this all-new Aquaman instalment will be “turn[ing] the dials up to 11” and after being treated to an unexpected pile of production footage, gorgeous concept art and exclusive interviews from both cast and crew, it’s safe to say that we’re all beyond stoked to be cranking up the dials on this one.
2) Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League (!?)
More amazing news for game lovers: in 2022, fans will have the chance to go head to head with the Justice League themselves in this all-new immersive experience from Rocksteady Studios. As the infamous Suicide Squad, players will be facing their favourite heroes in an epic, action-packed throwdown. With an incredible cast and some seriously slick looking graphics, we can’t wait to get our teeth into this one!
1. The Batman - AMAZING new trailer.
So much went down in 2021’s FanDome! We could easily ramble on for pages about all the amazing, head-turning announcements, sneak peeks and trailers that we were treated to this year.
However, there was one in particular that really got our attention and we doubt it’ll take much guessing to figure out which.
Set to release in March 2022, the trailer premiere for The Batman gave us and everyone watching the absolute chills! With Robert Pattinson reprising his role as the Dark Knight, along with some not-so-subtle nods towards Catwoman, Penguin and The Riddler, this movie looks packed with epic action and peak DC villains. I think we speak for everyone when we say: we can’t bloody wait!
