From Female Ninja Turtle to Twisted Metal and Beyblade reboots, it's a week of nostalgia!
Can you believe it's March TWENTY TWENTY TWO? This year is steam rollering away and it’s bringing some real show stoppers with it!
‘Shellheads’ especially will be elated (I hope!) to see the return of a nostalgic character, female turtle Venus is back! She will make her returning debut in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #127 which goes on sale in a couple of weeks and looks to be a mesmerising turn of events which could change the turtle universe forever.
My favourite comic release this week has to be Batman:Killing Time - when Catwoman, The Riddler and The Penguin join forces to pull off the greatest robbery in the history of Gotham City of course there is a bloody double cross or two…especially when the priceless artefact belongs to the one and only Bruce Wayne. As always, I'm flying the flag for the DC releases!
On that note I am also super excited to see Dark Knights of Steel being rebound in a collection now known as The Gathering Storm. Featuring Bruce Wayne and Alfred, Kal-El, Jor-El, Harley Quinn, Dinah Lance and Dick Grayson to name a few in a new DC universe and a dramatic retelling. I am excited to get my hands on this! If you want to know more, you can check out a full review of this over on the Bleeding Cool website!
Finally, BOOM! Studios have now released Jim Henson’s: The Storyteller: Shapeshifters, a brand new four-issue comic book series based on the Emmy Award-winning classic television show, Jim Henson’s The Storyteller. Each issue will feature a new creative team, with the first issue by writer Andre R. Frattino, artist Nori Retherford, colorist Kieran Quigley and letterer Jim Campbell (recognise that name?!), spinning a fresh new tale about the ancient Celtic myth of the swan Children of Lir. This comic is really beautifully illustrated and that lends itself so nicely to such a radiant story.
Moving on to moving pictures, it's hard to focus on anything when The Batman dropped today - have you seen it yet?
Otherwise, did you ever play Twisted Metal back in the late 90s/early 2000s? How on earth Peacock TV are planning to turn a video game about vehicular combat into a TV series I don’t know but I am pumped for it! At the end of the battle royale the winner is granted one wish - intrigued to see what the wishes are? Apparently we will be seeing this in 2022 so not too long to wait!
If you thought there couldn't be a weirder reboot, you are wrong. I have mixed emotions about the recently announced Beyblade live action movie. Released over 20 years ago, I grew up on Beyblade, unfortunately it did not translate well to the video games and I am not sure how well it will translate to live action, although if it follows the Japanese Death Note movies (not the Netflix adaptation, we don't talk about that….) then it could be glorious!
What We Do In The Shadows has become something of a cult classic with a very vocal fanbase, well - season 4 has been confirmed for release in 2022, I guess I should start watching this as it gets such amazing reviews and I did enjoy the movie….I will add it to my every growing list!
If you’ve managed to pull your thumbs away from Horizon Forbidden West or rage quit Elden Ring , there have been a couple of other video game releases this week. Firstly from the creators of the Gothic and Risen series we see a new open world role playing game called ELEX II, can you unite the free people and save the planet? Whilst it's got mixed reviews I think it looks like a fun game. If you play it let me know what you think….
If you've not had enough reboots this week, Gran Turismo is back for a 7th (technically 8th) instalment. Not just a racing game, GT is for car enthusiast's and allows you to dive into the history of a vast array of motors whilst you pursue that illustrious Sunday Cup!
If sequels are your thing, check out Shadow Warrior 3! If you haven't played the first 2 don't worry too much, you're a Ninja with an arsenal of firearms - just enjoy it! Based in Neo-Feudal Japan, you're tasked with defeating an ancient dragon and the deadly demons you encounter along the way. A nice little time killer for sure!
Whilst it might have been a week littered with reboots it's definitely not a bad thing, the year still has a lot to offer us and I am excited to see what March brings.
If you could see anything getting a sequel or a reboot what would it be?
