Dumbledore's secrets revealed?
This week I’m looking forward to the release of DC: Batman Beyond: Neo-Year #1 The six-issue miniseries spins out of Batman: Urban Legends #7, where the entire world of Terry McGinnis and his home of Neo Gotham was shaken up. Bruce Wayne died, Wayne Manor burned to the ground, and the entire city turned its back on Batman. After being offered the chance to leave, Terry turns it down to once again be the city’s protector, and uphold Batman’s legacy.
To go hand in hand with the alternate twists on DC we also have Earth Prime #1 Batwoman, Spinning out of the hit CW shows with each issue of Earth Prime focusing on a different Arrowverse series. With this one, ever since the tech that created many of Batman’s rogues hit the streets, Ryan Wilder has been running herself ragged trying to contain the new villains popping up around Gotham City and our Batwoman is going to need some serious help to contain a particularly muddy foe…
West of Sundown #1 is a glorious and gory hybrid of Sergio Leone westerns mixed with the best of Hammer House of Horror as vampires are taking over the WIld Frontier. A story of an America emerging from the Civil War and heading towards the 20th century. West of Sundown is about the great mythologies of the old world slamming into the folklore of the new world...the legends of Europe, and the birth of the American beast, what horrors lie in our shared unconsciousness, and how do we stuff them all into a too-tight corset?
You can now also enter the world of STRGRL #1, created by the award-winning artist Lucas Mendonça. The cosmic organisation known as STRGRL no longer exists. As enemy forces continue to threaten the integrity of the galaxy as a whole, a group known as the Moon Gang, formed by 4 general stargirls from the moons of Jupiter, intercepts the enemy.
Of course movie wise this week, everyone is only focused on Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore understandably…I never really got on the Harry Potter bandwagon (I know…I know…boo! hisss!) but I am a BIG fan of Mads Mikkelsen and I am excited to see him kick some Muggle ass!
I’ll be honest, I never really got the hype around the Lego games, nevertheless, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga released on Tuesday and I know a lot of people will be hyped for this! The game will adapt all nine entries in the Skywalker saga series of films, with additional characters and levels based on other Star Wars films and shows set to be released later as DLC.
Much more up my street is the beautiful Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition which came to Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and Xbox FINALLY this week. I grew up on JRPG’s but unfortunately these are SO expensive now and are usually collectors items, it's definitely a way for studios to remake their money on these games by bringing them onto the newer consoles! Us die hard weebs can't resist!
To show I'm not a complete wuss though, I am also super pumped to see The House of the Dead: Remake on Nintendo Switch too! It's a complete revamp of the visuals, audio and mechanics but still features gyro support (Joy-cons instead of using buttons) for that arcade feel and it's getting a ‘cowboy mode’ where you can wield two Joy-cons/guns simultaneously!
So which side are you on? Cute RPGs or Shoot-em-ups? Or another genre? Tell me about your favourites in the comments below!
