Mike Myers is back! Alongside Jack Black and Star Trek!
It's the week all comic book nerds look forward to! But before we jump in for this week's freebies let's take a look at what's hitting our shelves !
My first pick for this week's comic releases is Dogs of London #1 - unfortunately, not actually about dogs but looks killer nonetheless ! The Dogs are a feared gang who ruled much of London’s underworld back in the swinging 60s. Spanning different times and classes, Dogs of London is a brutal, bloody tale of violence, love, revenge…and sleeping dogs who refuse to roll over and play dead.
Image Comics brings us a family story this week with super cute Twig #1! Join our hesitant hero for an inspiring and imaginative tale of hope, heartache, and determination to overcome insurmountable odds in a world reminiscent of Jim Henson's Labyrinth or Dark Crystal.
It's also FREE COMIC BOOK DAY tomorrow! With titles from Marvel and DC of course as well as some amazing contributions from Dynamite, TOKYOPOP and Boom! Studios. I think my personal favourite is from Behemoth - Kult Cable #1 Feat Jack Black, dinosaurs AND Jack Black! Count me in!
If you want to partake in probably the best national holiday, check out the full list of free comic books available here - Free Comic Book Day List.
Of course the big movie debut this week is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! I am team 'WandaCanDoNoWrong' so I have to watch this quickly to avoid spoilers! The amount of cameos I am hearing about should make this movie an absolute showstopper on its own so I'm excited to spend this weekend discussing it with you all in our Wild River Comics Discussion Group!
But there are some exciting TV announcements too! For example, Mike Myers is back, yeah baby! The Pentaverate is a six-episode comedy series that acts as a spin-off of Myers’ 1993 romantic black comedy film So I Married an Axe Murderer. The story follows a society of five men, all played by Myers (because he’s Mike frickin’ Myers!), who have collectively controlled the world and influenced global events since the Black Plague in 1347.
I've never been a Trekkie but I'm sure some of you will be excited to hear that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds also launched this week. Branching off from their appearances in Star Trek: Discovery, the crew lead the journey for the USS Enterprise that serves as a bridge to the events of the original TV series. New episodes will premiere weekly and a second season has already been given the green light!
Now for the part I look forward to the most, gaming!
My favourite looking release this week is Trek to Yomi, an ultra-stylised cinematic action-adventure that follows Hiroki during his fall against the forces of evil. Experience his heroic return to make good on his failed promise to save the people he swore to protect. Faced with tragedy and bound to duty, the lone samurai must voyage beyond life and death to confront himself and decide his path forward. I love a good heart wrenching revenge story!
Set in a series of procedurally-generated labyrinths, Loot River is a dungeon-crawling action-roguelike that combines the tense, real-time combat and dark fantasy stylings of Dark Souls with the spatial block-shifting puzzles of Tetris - a good combination?
Finally, let me present you with a question - is one life enough to know Kung Fu?
Sifu: Vengeance is the story of a young Kung Fu student on a path of revenge, hunting for the murderers of his family. He has to rely on his unique mastery of Kung Fu as well as a mysterious pendant to prevail and preserve his family’s legacy. Samurai and Kung Fu masters in the same week?! Which side would you choose?
