Whilst a few of us may be sceptical when big corporations jump on the Pride Month bandwagon, I have to applaud DC with the DC Pride : 2022 #1 cover art. Absolutely stunning! This anthology features all-new stories spotlighting LGBTQIA+ fan-favourites including Superman, Nubia, Tim Drake, Kid Quick, Alysia Yeoh, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Batwoman, and more! This special also includes: A Multiversity: Teen Justice kickoff story spotlighting Kid Quick which I will also highlight in this update! It also includes an introduction by activist, actress, and real-life superhero Nicole Maines so you know the effort has been made to have the right people on the team.
As previously mentioned, this month also debuts DC: Multiversity: Teen Justice #1.
Kid Quick‚the Future State Flash and their fellow heroes Supergirl, Robin, Aquagirl, Klarienne the Witch Girl, and Troy take centre stage in this miniseries and whilst I usually have a dislike for kid/teen characters (yes Spider-Man included) this gives me Teen Titan vibes which I adore!
Co-writers Ivan Cohen (The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries) and Danny Lore (DC Pride, Champions) join rising-star artist Marco Failla (DCeased: Hope at World’s End) for the incredible debut issue, which begins with an attack by the H.I.V.E. and ends in the Church of Blood! The secrets of Earth-11’s newest heroes and villains unfold in DC’s most exciting new team title!
Where Starships Go To Die #1 is a story of a spacecraft graveyard where rockets and satellites can be safely ditched on the ocean floor. In a near future ravaged by climate change, an African astronaut teams with an Indian shipping magnate to mount a dangerous salvage mission to recover the wreck of humanity’s first interstellar starship. But what they find is beyond their worst nightmares. Whilst I usually steer clear of sci-fi titles, this comic brings you a sci-fi horror tale that will make you rethink the space race, or at least who you’re going to send up there first….
If you’re after a slightly more relaxed read this week, might I recommend Potions Inc. #1 ?
The call of adventure always seems to hang up whenever Randelgast Jones tries to answer it, leaving him facing the dull future of working in his family’s potion shop.
But when a powerful artefact is stolen from his parents and puts them under a terrible curse, Ran finally gets the quest he’s been after his whole life, but they do always say ‘be careful what you wish for’...
One of the biggest announcements this week, Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker is set to head back into cinemas in 2024 with a brand new sequel. In an Instagram post, Joker director Todd Phillips shared a picture of the cover of the script, as well as a photo of Phoenix reading it, confirming that the film will be titled Joker: Folie à Deux. Does this mean a certain Harleen Quinzel will make an appearance? What do you think?
I’m surprised I’ve managed to write for so long without mentioning Jurassic Park: Dominion ! I have lost count of how many times I have watched this trailer and tonight, finally, I get to watch the final chapter in the trilogy. How have our dinosaurs coped in the real world? Is baby Blue as awesome as she looked in the trailer? (obviously I know the answer to this is yes…), is Daddy Goldblum going to steal the show again? ( again, another obvious yes) And I have no doubts there will be some new dinosaurs to swoon over! I will be reviewing this movie ASAP and dropping it on this blog page over the weekend, I can’t wait to hear all of your thoughts on it!
Ms. Marvel also landed on Disney+ this week, whilst it combines some of my typical pet hates (child actors and female superheroes) I have to at least give it a chance. The Marvel Disney+ series have been very hit and miss… but the trailer for this one has a banging soundtrack and I also love the cartoony, almost 80s vibe it gives off. I’ll give it an episode or two and see how I feel - how about you?
Finally, probably something a lot of you have been looking forward to, Peaky Blinders season 6 landing on Netflix. If you haven't already watched it on BBC iPlayer, you can binge it in one go from June 10th. I have managed to avoid all spoilers …but I’ve also avoided the first 5 seasons so maybe that's why!
Now where are my weebs at? Demon Slayer really landed with a slap, and now if you can’t wait for the next season for the anime, the new game is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation 5! Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles features the original anime voice cast which is an absolute blessing and features an Adventure Mode as well as a VS Mode.
As a huge fan of the Telltale Games I'm excited to see The Quarry released this week. With the usual weird celebrity cameos, we follow a cinematic tale of 9 teenagers on their final night as camp counsellors at Hacketts Quarry Camp and determine their fates through a series of quick time decisions. A night of horror unfolds and it's up to you to determine if everyone survives…
There have been so many awesome announcements for future shows this week on Netflix as part of their Geeked Week including new Umbrella Academy, Wednesday Addams series and Neil Gaiman's Sandman - join us on our instagram to keep up with the news as it happens!
Also, check out our spoiler free review for Jurassic Park - Dominion when it drops online this weekend!
