I never seem to get bored of the X-Men, so I am glad to see Marvel: Immortal X-Men #1 with a new story for us! A quiet council rules the Krakoan age, for better... or worse. Now, shaken by INFERNO and X LIVES / X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE they strive to hold together, no matter how much they want to tear each other apart.
Writer Kieron Gillen (UNCANNY X-MEN, ETERNALS) returns to the world of X to bring us all into the room where it happens… "It" being the most powerful people on Earth deciding the fate of the whole planet.
Prepare for sinister secrets to be revealed and learn that some secrets are more deadly than others…
DC: Shadow War: Alpha #1 shows us what happens following Deathstroke assassinating Ra’s al Ghul, Talia al Ghul demands revenge and sends her League of Shadows to kill Deathstroke and Deathstroke Inc.!
Batman and Robin must team up to track down Deathstroke and bring him to justice, but do they? Expect over-the-top fights, action, mystery, and betrayal as this crossover event creates a major impact on the DCU!
Following a successful Kickstarter, Cities Of Magick #1 launches this week. A future-fantasy comic about cowboys, magic gangs, and the end of the world, definitely for fans of Sergio Leone, Sons of Anarchy, and Lord of the Rings. Cities of Magick is a future-fantasy story about the intersection of geography and magic. How do our needs and wants and desires manifest themselves in the architecture and infrastructure of a city fueled by willpower and imagination? And how do people try to fit into a world like that?
Keeping with the futuristic feel, Beyond The Farthest Star Chronicles 50th Anniversary Edition was originally published as a backup feature in several issues of DC's Tarzan series. This first comic book adaptation of the brilliant Edgar Rice Burroughs tale has not been seen outside those issues in 50 years! When Nazi warplanes blast an American fighter pilot out of the sky, he awakens not in the expected afterlife but on a far-flung planet—one of eleven interconnected worlds hurtling around a strangely constructed star system. When news comes of a powerful invention that could turn the tides of the conflict, our pilot must undertake a daring undercover mission behind enemy lines.
Man oh man, has it been a wait and a half for Morbius! It better be worth it! If you are not familiar with the Marvel character, Mobius is a doctor who has saved many lives and even won the Nobel Prize, but cannot find a way to cure his own illness, his own blood is slowly killing him. His findings? To try a concoction of bat serum as a cure...
Whilst it seems to work and his body starts to recover but he also has additional powers such as eco-location and flight ability. Of course there was a big price to pay for the treatment. Gradually, he begins to be driven by the search for more blood. Imagine Batman took it a step too far… that's Morbius!
Personally I am a bit bored of the typical ‘Superhero smash Supervillian into building’ that Marvel had got into the habit of so I am excited to see a darker story brought to life!
Another big release this week, The Bad Guys is actually based on a series of children's books by Aaron Blabey and whilst it still has a child-like charm to it, it reminds me a lot of Zootopia and I think it can be enjoyed at any age! After a lifetime of legendary heists, notorious criminals Mr. Wolf and his gang are finally caught. To avoid a prison sentence, the animal outlaws must pull off their most challenging con yet -- becoming model citizens. Under the tutelage of their mentor, Professor Marmalade, the dubious gang sets out to fool the world that they're turning good - but who are they really fooling? This has been high on my watch list for a while, when you watch it let me know what you think!
As if that wasn't enough, our ‘Blue Justice’ Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is back in action! Whilst I LOVE the evolution of Robotnik…hearing Sonic ask who Tails is just doesn't sit right with me…I haven't watched this yet as I don't know how to emotionally prepare myself for this storyline.
However, the hot topic in the office is most certainly Moon Knight which is now streaming on Disney +. Moon Knight is a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. However, these identities find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt. Moon Knight is played by Oscar Isaac (Ex-Machina and Star Wars VII) and the show's villain is played by Ethan Hawke, who Hawke based on cult leader David Koresh.
From video game movies to the video games themselves and there is only one video game I am particularly interested in this week and that’s the beautiful Moss: Book II. If you have Playstation VR I am urging you to pick up both of these games for the beautiful visuals and story and for a truly immersive experience where you get to be a mouse! Zero human responsibilities!
But - if you're looking for something a little more serious to take your frustrations out on, how about Weird West which was released on Playstation, Xbox and Steam this week? Discover a dark fantasy reimagining of the Wild West, where lawmen and gunslingers share the frontier with fantastical creatures. Coming out here may just be the best thing you ever do…if you survive that is….
I’m all for futuristic cowboys but what sort of cross over do you think we are missing in the gaming world?
