Dating back all the way back to the 1800s as a trademark of Gothic literature, vampires have since become an icon of modern pop culture. With that comes a lot of movies; good ones, bad ones, funny ones, ones to obsess over and ones you wish you had never seen. There’s a lot of them to get through and with some of the stuff that’s out there, it can be easy to get a bad first impression of the vampire genre.

To save you some time, here are three awesome vampire to help get you started!

1.) Interview With A Vampire (1994).

Based on the novel of the same name by Anne Rice, Interview With A Vampire is the story of Louis de Pointe du Lac, a vampire who lost his humanity way back in the eighteenth century. We, however, meet him in the late twentieth century, where he flags down a journalist with a wish to tell his over two-hundred year-long story.

This movie does something different with the vampire concept that I personally wish writers would do more often; it refrains from the stereotypical depiction of vampires as bloodthirsty killers spawned from the depths of hell. Instead, it casts them in a much more sympathetic and neutral light, as just another species trying to survive with no more knowledge of their purpose on Earth than human beings.

With an stellar A-list cast, beautiful visuals and lyrical script, this is definitely one to fall in love with!

2.) The Lost Boys (1987).

For this one, we’re heading back to the 80s, when vampires were having a huge resurgence in popularity. With a huge cult following, The Lost Boys is a true classic of its era.

Having moved from Pheonix to Santa Carla (AKA the designated murder capital of the world), homesick teenage brothers, Micheal and Sammy, reluctantly navigate their new surroundings. While Sammy runs into a couple of comic book kooks claiming to be vampire killers, Micheal is singled out by David, a mysterious man backed by a crew of grinning, leather-clad bikers. Both boys are lead down very different yet equally terrifying rabbit holes which neither one signed up for, rabbit holes that will inevitably have to meet in the middle.

As thrilling as it is compelling, this movie is best enjoyed with a big bowl of popcorn and a big old blanket to hide under.

3.) Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992).

A hark back to one of the most iconic vampires of all time, this one is a real blast from the past! Based on Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, the story follows Vlad Dracula, who is out for revenge after the tragic death of his love, Elisabeta. However, things take an alarming turn when he meets Mina, a respectable Victorian lady who Dracula endeavours to claim as the reincarnation of Elisabeta.

A faithful adaptation of a true classic, Bram Stoker’s Dracula is a must-see for any horror, gothic and/ or vampire fan!
