It's a show of fan power that Spider-Man: No Way Home is even being made at all. The negative reaction of Marvel's fans to their split with Sony on the production of these films caused a change of heart that resulted in the best ever big-screen Spider-Man series. But what can we expect from the third film? How will it connect up to the rest of the MCU? And will this be the conclusion of the series?

Who is involved?

The familiar faces of the series are returning on and off screen, with Tom Holland starring as Peter Parker for the third time, and Jon Watts once again directing. Much of the cast of the previous films are returning too, as well as some other characters from the wider MCU. Notably, this includes Benedict Cumberbatch, with Doctor Strange set to play a central part in the story.

The most intriguing reveal though has been the inclusion of Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Thomas Haden Church and Rhys fans. What do all these actors have in common? They all played villains in films from the previous Spider-Man series. From what has been trailed, it appears that the multiverse will be opened up and characters from all of the Spider-Man series will conglomerate into an epic finale that has Marvel's style written all over it.

Will this be the final film in a trilogy?

The simple answer is no, because as far back as 2019 Marvel have said a fourth film is in the works. Although a trilogy would feel nice and conclusive, it isn't Marvel's usual approach to stop a series for the sake of a narrative when they know that fans will always want more. Spider-Man is such a deep and historical character that there will be a wealth of stories, characters and ideas from the comics that Marvel can adapt for new movies.

However, there is a more complex answer. Questions remain over whether the films beyond this trilogy will include Tom Holland. His contract to play Spider-Man end's after No Way Home, and although he has previously said he would like to continue with the character his recent comments about taking a break from acting means this isn't a guarantee.

Will it be as good as Homecoming and Far From Home?

Of all the big-screen adaptations of Spider-Man, this series has been the best. Marvel took a while to concoct their formula for a great superhero film, but once they did they applied it to the web-slinger with aplomb. Tom Holland's portrayal has always felt the most soulful and charming interpretation, and despite the sometimes overbearing thrust of the wider MCU, this series has engaged fans and critics in a way that previous series didn't quite manage.

Undoubtedly for Marvel fans the inclusion of other characters from the MCU will be a big draw, but for those who want to focus on Spider-Man the idea of bringing back villains from the previous series is a great idea. Combining these two elements together could prove to be a stroke of genius from Marvel.

In all of this mayahm one big question remains: will Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield wear their Spider-Man suits again or have all been tricked?
