Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is set to premiere in theatres on May 6th, and needless to say, we are HYPED. With the movie delayed nearly a year due to reshoots and various production-related setbacks, the anticipation for the long-awaited second instalment of Stephen Strange’s MCU arc has been building to a breaking point! So now that it's finally here, what can we expect?

One of the most major issues faced within the production of Doctor Strange (aside from COVID, of course) was a jarring switch-up in the director’s department. Initially set to be directed by Scott Derrickson, Derrickson later made the decision to leave the project, with Marvel CEO, Kevin Feige, citing “creative differences” as the primary cause. With a mind to make the movie a little darker, Marvel later broke the exciting news that Derrickson’s shoes were to be filled by none other than Sam Raimi. With extensive experience in both horror and comic themed projects, including the 80s classic Evil Dead trilogy and the early 2000s Spider-Man trilogy, fans were over the moon to see Raimi’s name reemerge. Given Raimi’s track record, expectations are running high! Rumour has it that Raimi will be bringing out the darker side of Doctor Strange and that time around, we’re in for something a little scarier!

On top of this, Raimi has an impeccable cast under his direction, with Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role yet again as Doctor Strange, alongside a host of highly anticipated casting announcements. Among them is Elizabeth Olsen, who will be appearing in the film as Wanda Maximoff. With Wanda having officially taken up the mantle as the Scarlet Witch, fans have been awaiting her return to the MCU with bated breath since her last silver screen appearance in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. She has since starred in a 2021 Disney+ mini-series called WandaVision, which further developed the character lore of the Scarlet Witch. With confirmation from Marvel that the events of WandaVision and Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness are directly linked, it’ll be interesting to see the knock-on effect these further developments will have. The moral alignment that the MCU’s incarnation of Wanda is set to take is still unclear - will she choose a life of good, or will she go all-out evil witch on the doc? We can’t wait to find out! Either way, let's hope the movie does her justice.

Another exciting addition to the Doctor Strange cast is Xochitl Gomez, who will be bringing America Chavez to life in her MCU debut. A consistent member of the various incarnations of the Avengers comic cast, it's about time America got her MCU origin story! And given that she’s known for her ability to manipulate the multiverse, we couldn’t think of a more fitting film to finally introduce her.

And as if this line-up wasn’t exciting enough, by far the most talked-about cast member is none other than Sir Patrick Stewart. Upon hearing Stewart’s voice in the movie’s trailer, fans were buzzing at the possibility of Stewart reprising his role as Charles Xavier - a theory that has since been confirmed. Given that Xavier has already had two on-screen deaths, it's likely that Stewart will be playing a variant version of the character, a concept likely made possible by the upcoming multiverse shenanigans. Nevertheless, the presence of Charles Xavier is an indirect confirmation that mutants have finally entered the MCU. Whether or not they will play a significant role in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is yet to be seen. Whatever the case, the concept of this movie could make a perfect set-up for future X-Men related content.

Speaking of variants, Charles Xavier isn’t the only alternate character we’re likely to see. The film’s trailer also hints at an alternate version of Wanda and an ‘evil twin’ of Doctor Stephen Strange himself. To see these characters come face-to-face with polarising versions of themselves could be the basis for some really compelling conflict and major character developments. If these character variants are as present as the movie trailer suggests, chances are they will have a significant influence on the story.

There’s so much to talk about with this movie, but if we were to address everything, we’d be here all day! So tell us, what are you looking forward to most about The Multiverse Of Madness? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
